Pinnacle is a Summer Tradition

As has become somewhat of a tradition, EMS leaders from around the U.S. travelled to a hot place in the height of summer for the Pinnacle EMS Leadership Conference. For the past 5 years NEMSMA has used Pinnacle as our home base for a variety of association meetings, our annual membership meeting as well as the annual in-person meeting the American College of Paramedic Executives (ACPE) that oversees our credentialing program. Conference topics in Orlando this year included a significant amount of buzz about the new ET3 pilot program and the soon-to-be required Medicare cost reporting program. A variety of current clinical and administrative topics were also discussed in over 40 preconference and regular sessions.

Perhaps the most valuable part of the Pinnacle, however, is the opportunity to network with colleagues from around the country. The mix of attendees from a variety of EMS system types adds to the breadth and depth of conversations not found at other venues. From the NEMSMA perspective we were able make some key decisions regarding our paramedic officer credentialing programs including the roll out of remote proctoring for our written credentialing tests and the enactment of planned degree requirements and managing and executive officer levels. The NEMSMA Board of Directors discussed a number of key issues including our ongoing management services agreement, the roll out of specialty officer tests in the areas of safety, quality and information technology as well as annual work plans for our multiple committees.

For the second year in a row, NEMSMA also sponsored a hospitality suite in the evenings to facilitate networking among our members. Other hot topics such as provider wellness initiatives, legal updates, the future of EMS clinical practice, and degree requirements were also debated both formally and informally. The Pinnacle Exhibit hall, known for its small scale and cutting edge products and services was also a gathering place for almost three days. Overall, NEMSMA is pleased to  have partnered with Pinnacle on an important industry event and we look forward to seeing you at next year’s Pinnacle conference July 27 -31 in Phoenix.
